The Black Stone

content image

The Black Stone is known and recognised as a large black rock, in the middle of the river.

The pool is located about one mile downstream of the village and is a good spot for producing salmon throughout the season. Again, fly fishing is better at the head of the pool and spinning at the lower section.

It is a good walk down to the Black Stone. You can park at the Recreation Grounds (see map) and continue on foot along the disused railway line. Alternatively, parking in the same place you could cross the cricket field diagonally opposite the entrance gate; here you can join the fisherman's walk - along the edge of the river bank. Another option is via the same access point for Higgins Streams (see map).
